My ancient times

Do you remember life before the internet?

I can’t remember life before the internet but I can remember the internet without me.

Growing up in a community where it was regarded abominable for a child to hold a phone certainly left the internet no choice but to make due without my presence. I still remember it like it was yesterday.

“Go out and play,” my dad would say after a long morning of chores and heavy lunch when the sun was at it’s highest. We would run out to play “kwepena” and skipping rope as my brothers could be seen at a distance playing ‘dool.’

I remember days that didn’t start with notifications from different socials fighting for my attention but rather a full day planned out with friends and family that never required airtime or data just to say hi.

I miss the days before one’s self esteem had to be validated by the number of likes and comments on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or TikTok.

Never in my life did I ever imagine competition with technology for the time of those I hold dear to my heart. When did it come down to virtual hugs, kisses and laughter?! πŸ«‚πŸ€— 😘 πŸ˜‚.

I miss the days before keyboards became the mouthpiece, emojis acting as a coverup for the raw emotions and gadgets replacing actual human company. Call me ancient but old is gold πŸͺ™πŸ₯‡, I wonder why we just can’t have the best of both worlds ❀️.

  3. Reblogged this on From guestwriters and commented:
As with radio and television, people have yet to get used to the internet. After a while, people stopped hanging on to wireless and went back to walking in the fresh air. In a few years, people will also get tired of all those apps and will go back to earlier pastures and seek that lost human contact again….
